Devlog 2 - Playtest

From the playtest:

How was the engagement with the EU values perceived by the players of the game?
The player get form the game how the otter are influenced by people. It make it clear why the otters and endangered species by putting themselves in the role of an otter.

What can be improved?
The feedback we got was very helpful. Some game mechanics were not fully finished yet, which made a few things unclear. One important point was that we forgot to explain the function of the fish in our instructions. Most rules were clear, but this missing detail caused some confusion.  We can make the otter pawn smaller and  make it another colour of each other. We need to make it clear what the point is of the fishes. The players can die too fast and make the game short. It can be too much text.  We also learned that the otter characters should look more different from each other so players can tell them apart easily. To improve the game, we need to make the design of the fish and hearts clearer so players understand their purpose right away. We already knew that our game was not fully finished before playtesting. Which is why most of our feedback was not really a surprise to us. So it was easy for us to decide what next steps to take.

How playable was the prototype so far for the others? It was very playable and they enjoyed the game. Only they didn't understand what the use of the fishes where.

Did the players understand the instructions?
Today, the students played our game using our instructions. They understood the rules well and were able to play without problems.  They understood the instructions very clearly. The instructions are short but easy to understand. We only forgot the write te purpose of the fishes.

What are your action points for the upcoming day:
We are going to continue working on our game. We did not get any feedback that would require us to change anything we already have. Our plan is to improve and add onto the base that we have made. We are going to expand our game-manual and elaborate on some parts of the game that we had not fully implemented yet. We will also continue working on the look of our game. We’re going to improve our pawns by coloring them in and add some more decoration to the board.
